Buckhead is an affluent area of North Atlanta with a large business district and the finest shopping. It was originally a rural area that offered wealthy Atlantans a country escape from the city. Now, it is a thriving epicenter of Atlanta. But, condo and commercial highrises are just blocks from mansions on sprawling estates.
Shopping in Buckhead
The heart of Buckhead is a shopping district where shoppers spend more than $3 billion a year more than 1,500 retail units. Buckhead’s upscale boutiques are concentrated in and around Lenox Square, Phipps Plaza and the new Buckhead Atlanta project.
Getting Around Buckhead
Buckhead is bisected by the Georgia 400 expressway that connects drivers to I-285 and I-85. MARTA operates three mass transit stations including Lindbergh Center, the Gold Line‘s Lenox station and the Red Line‘s Buckhead station. A free circulator bus called “the buc” (Buckhead Uptown Connection) stops at all three stations. Plans have been proposed to extend the Atlanta Streetcar to Buckhead providing street-level service all the way to downtown Atlanta.
Pedestrians and Cycling
Buckhead will soon be connected the Northside Beltline Trail and PATH 400 cross-city pedestrian transit ways. Natural hiking trails include:
- Chastain Park Trail
- Mountain To River Trail
- Paces Ferry Trail
